2734 Pickup and circuit combinations at your fingertip

Ordering your individual sound configuration: Build your bass in the configurator and add to cart. Click on your preferred pickup configuration here, make your selections and also add to your cart. Check out and sit back, we’ll take care of everything else.

Our pickup types

  • BITE 1000mV split coil (P). We can arrange P pickups either in traditional or reverse orientation (DG coil closer to the neck). If not specified otherwise, we'll assume you want your P the traditional way (DG coil closer to the bridge).
  • BITE 1000mV single coil (J), 92mm length in the neck position, 95mm length in the bridge position.
  • BITE 2x1000mV humbucker (H), 92mm length in the neck position, 95mm length in the bridge position.

All-in Upcharges

The below listed upcharges are all-in prices. Wherever applicable, they include:

  • Pickups
  • Standard pickup covers, available in BITE branded orange-white, plain white and plain black.
  • Circuitry work (soldering)
  • Routing, drilling and shielding work for pickups and additional control slots.
  • Pickguard routing
  • Additional potentiometers and switches
  • Additional knobs: We're not gonna beancount. We'll try to match the knobs of any additional control slot with your underlying bass configuration.
  • Side-mounted output jack including jack plate: We can position any additional control slot on the face of your bass (pickguard/control plate) or clear one slot by moving the output jack to the side of the body (lower bout) where we'll seat it in a jack plate of matching hardware color.
  • Switch rings: Our standard switch rings are 3-ply with white writing on black or vice versa. If you want individual wordings, we can write pretty much everything that fits into the space. If you want individual colors, we can source 50 different color combinations including wood and metal imitations. Pricing for individual wording & colors varies depending on your request.

Circuitry work only: In cases where you'd want a special circuit or special control options on standard PU configurations, the upcharge will depend on the amount of work needed, the range is roughly between 60€ and 120€ (50€ and 100€ export price net of VAT).

Humbucker splitter: In case you’re looking at a humbucker (H), we offer H splitters. What’s that? Your volume knob will get an additional push/pull function allowing you to run your H pickup alternately in humbucking mode or single coil mode. What's the difference? Humbucking mode means two coils within one pickup in series circuit, result: more output and a darker, less articulate tone.

Don’t worry about nasty noise in single coil (J type) mode, BITE 1000mV single coils are noiseless. You determine in advance, when you order your H addition, which of the two coils you prefer to run as single coil. H splitter upcharge: +60€ (50€ export price net of VAT).

5-string coil upcharge: 5-string pickups are individually produced and therefore entail higher costs: P and J pickups count as one coil, an H counts two coils, hence +one coil (the H replaces the original P of your configurator build). Upcharges per additional coil: +54€ (45€ export price net of VAT). Don't forget to add also your 5-string bass upcharge to cart (for the individual 5-string bass build including body, neck, bridge etc.).

How and what to choose?

What's the point of 2734 pickup-circuit combinations anyway? We continue to be amazed at how many customers ask for specific pickup configurations and circuits, so we decided we better bring some order and overview into this whole PU-circuit business. The most popular special circuit option is series wiring. What does series mean to your sound? It's a turbo boost. Whenever two pickups are linked in parallel mode (standard in JJ and PJ models), the combined output is less than that of only one pickup (especially true for the neck pickup). Link the same two pickups in series mode and both resistances are simply added up: a good way to blow your skinny guitarist off his feet. Read a bit more about wiring here

3-pickup-design
Three pickups on a bass may sound crazy at first but here's what we do: we install a neck/mid pickup toggle selector,  it switches between the neck and mid pickup, so what you hear is the combination of your bridge pickup plus your selected neck/mid pickup. Three-pickup design is about tonal range and versatility, not about more oomph.

You may also want to have a look at our premium builds for inspiration:

  • The Dragon features 7 pickup configurations including the mighty JJ and PJ series circuits.
  • The Steampunk sports a whopping 11 pickup configurations by adding another 4 out-of-phase circuits.
  • The Sound Monster even tops the Steampunk by adding a bassmute, resulting in a whopping 22 sound configurations without anyone even getting near the tone knob.

Abbreviations

  • PU = Pickup
  • J = JB type (single coil) PU
  • P = PB type (split coil) PU
  • H = Humbucker (dual coil) PU
